Law translation. Without right to mistakes

Nobody is insured from mistakes. During translation there are mistakes and innacuracies, and their consequences can be the most unexpected. The most known mistake has been made while translating Charles Pero's fairy tale "Cinderella". In the original there were fur slippers put on Cinderella, and the translator because of non-acquaintance and inexact formulation of old French language has changed it in crystal shoes. Surely, the fairy tale has won from such ''changing of shoes'' as in it the happy end initially was meant. But in a real life such translation can cost much - especially while translating law documents.

Law translation usually classify as a technical type of translation because of specific terminology and activity subject.

 ''Encyclopaedic law dictionary'' divides law terms on the basis of their understability:

- valid terms are used in usual speech and are understandable to all population;

- special law terms, understandable only to experts in the field of the law;

- specially technical terms.

Jurisprudence practice has many cases when inexact law translation became the reason of incidents. Not all of them have been settled in due time and without consequences, and business turned judicial proceedings.

Different states => different legal systems => different legal languages.

To adapt the text it is necessary not only to speak language, but also have a good grip of the verbal niceties of jurisprudence. Nonprofessional and illiterate law translation is capable to transform the document into a usual paper.

Written translation distinctive feature is that in documents seldom there are the phrases used in informal conversation. Jurisprudence is the exact science, it does not suffer double interpretation or essence definition. And each language has own linguistic base and own features. So Russian language distinguishes univerbation - combining a fixed expression of several words into a new single word. In other languages there can not be direct analogues of a word and it is necessary for translator to select correctly the corresponding structure completely displaying an essence. Thus it should consider law base also. Translator should not treat and translate terms in own way, words and terms are necessary to translate accurately.
